There are two very starkly distinct visions of low carbon development. One is agrarian, utopist and conservative, looking backward and hoping for a return to old ways of living and traditional structures. A more attractive vision is more radical, urban. Like Livingstone embracing higher-density building to protect London’s Green Belt and other community open spaces.
Urban living is sustainable sustainability. Rural ecotowns are not.
